"Yesterday, Today, Forever."

Still River awakens in front of the fire.

The lake spreads out before him, ringed by snowcapped mountains. Blue sky hangs overhead.

He eats the sacrament and waits until the visions come.

Blood percolates inside him, fusing with the sacred plant’s magic. Blood turns to light. His hands begin to tremble.

The lake turns to fire. The mountain peaks stick into the sky like needles, and the sky rains down blood in return. Still River falls to the ground, head spinning and shrinking into indescribable vastness.

Still River awakens in front of the fire.

The lake is a hole cutting straight through the earth. Starlight leaks through from the other end of the world. The mountains have flattened into silver liquid statues, reflecting exploding flashes from the purple sky, huddling around the lake like wizened elders.

The sky speaks to Still River in a calm clear voice in a language he can’t understand. He leans against a tree hearing something crushing through the brush beyond, and then falls to the ground again, brain screaming silently into the darkness.

Still River awakens in front of the fire.

He is inside of the lake hole now, swimming through bubbling stars, arms and legs dragging through unseen gelatin that groans in a low thick voice.

He looks up to the orange sky and hears the screams of eagles falling down through the channel, crashing against the thickening waters only to shatter into millions of jittering shards of kaleidoscopic light.

He drags himself out of the hole and collapses on the shore as droplets of cosmos slither away from him like crystalline snakes. His eyes close as his mind opens again.

All has changed, but everything’s the same.
